Shanghai OnStar showcases telematics services at Beijing Motor Show
Issue Date: 2016-05-13

Shanghai OnStar, China's leading onboard telematics service provider, is showcasing a range of technologies and services at Auto China 2016 in Beijing.

Visitors to its interactive display at SAIC-GM's Buick stand have the opportunity to experience the convenience of Shanghai OnStar's wireless connectivity services and cutting-edge intelligent technologies on real vehicles.

Building a Fully Mobile and Interconnected Telematics Experience

Shanghai OnStar is transforming the automobile into a mobile Internet platform that enables users to easily access the services that are important to them whenever and wherever they may be.

Shanghai OnStar has launched several premium service packages that provide designated drivers; make golf course, high-end restaurant and hotel reservations; book airplane tickets and rental cars; offer exclusive seasonal travel discounts and book high-end restaurants.

These services, which were originally limited to Cadillac owners, are now available to Buick owners following the launch of the new LaCrosse in March. Shanghai OnStar has also established an exclusive customer service team for Cadillac and Buick LaCrosse owners.

Shanghai OnStar's new Mr. O mobile app supports natural voice recognition for all vehicles equipped with OnStar. Through the power of Mr. O, which auto show visitors can experience, users can call out their desired destination, which is then sent to their vehicle. They can also use verbal commands to check the weather, enquire about OnStar services, access remote functions or just have a chat with Mr. O as they enjoy their driving experience.

Pioneering Onboard 4G LTE Telematics Service

Since its debut in China last October on the Cadillac ATS-L, OnStar 4G LTE has become available on several models from SAIC-GM, including the Cadillac CT6 and XT5, new Buick LaCrosse and Excelle, and Chevrolet Malibu XL.

The state-of-the-art technology is deeply integrated into the vehicle, providing a powerful signal that offers data transmission speeds up to 10 times faster than those of 3G. The vehicle becomes a Wi-Fi hotspot that can support up to seven mobile devices with coverage of up to 700 square meters. This enables the driver and passengers to access the Internet while inside and outside the vehicle.

OnStar 4G LTE will serve as the foundation for future telematics technology and services. Shanghai OnStar and the Midea Group recently formed a partnership to combine Shanghai OnStar's onboard 4G LTE technology and on-demand telematics services with Midea's smart household technology. Their goal is to provide more integrated and interconnected services to help Shanghai OnStar build a fully connected "people-vehicle-life ecosystem."

Sustaining Telematics Innovation

Shanghai OnStar is sustaining telematics innovation by creating new applications and technologies. They are not just providing a more secure, intelligent, convenient and enjoyable experience for users. They are also supporting Shanghai OnStar's partners.

Last year, Shanghai OnStar began developing a range of new business-to-business services, including a premium automotive finance service plan with SAIC-GMAC and new fleet management solutions that allow users to leverage OnStar to control operation costs and identify misused vehicles. Shanghai OnStar has also launched an aftersales loyalty service in cooperation with SAIC-GM and its dealers early this year, which allows subscribers to automatically send their vehicle's diagnostics information to their nearest certified dealer's management platform via mobile app or website.

This is part of Shanghai OnStar's goal of creating China's largest platform for onboard telematics using the most advanced technologies and highest-quality service. Shanghai OnStar operates three call centers across China and has launched a mobile app, support for wearable devices, official website and WeChat service platform for the convenience of subscribers.
