Pioneer gives smartphone control of car audio
Issue Date: 2015-12-23

Pioneer Electronics has announced a new app that lets a smartphone act as the remote control for many of its 2016 CD receivers. This effectively makes your phone a new screen for the humble single DIN radio/CD.

The app, called ARC, Advance Remote Control, works with an iPhone 8.0 or higher or Android 4.2 or higher.

It requires a connection over the USB port with a cable. You then get an easy user interface with huge buttons. You can swipe through playlists and presets, and tap to control sources. The phone now also controls the radio volume with a tap and twist of two fingers.

Users get detailed artist and song info that was hard to view on a single CD receiver screen.
